This has been debated since the beginning of computers. Is it better to buy from a Dell, Compaq, etc. or buy a computer built from components by small companies. Manufactured systems use components from the lowest bidder. Many times they use proprietary components that can only be replaced by special ordering the parts from the manufacturer (usually at a very expensive price). I've had to throw systems away because you cannot get a power supply. On the other hand there are positives with manufactured systems in warranty and service agreements for companies that buy lots of computers. On the other hand Shop Built Systems use better components because the people who build them research and find the best components to fit each customer. The options for system builders have gotten better in that they can now get components and software at better prices and now their systems can be priced competitively with that of the big guys. The shop built systems use standard components. That means that they are easier to service and upgrade because they can be worked on by any respectable computer professional. Not always so with manufactured systems. You can not go wrong dealing with a respectable business and purchasing systems from them. However we want to encourage you to shop with the big manufacturers, compare the price, the service and the guarantee and then make your decision. |
